We visited Graves Light by helicopter on a beautiful fall day in September 2013. Here are are some of our pictures.
Our flight took us in from the northwest in Revere. We circled around the light many times, taking shots from between 200 and 600 feet in altitude. In one of the shots, the Boston skyline is visible. In another shot, the colors of the sea water show the sandy shallows on the leeward side of Graves Ledge, and the dark depths where the ledge plunges 80 feet down.
- This great-grandmother just had a fantastic helicopter tour of Graves Light with NowCityTours.com.
- The Boston Skyline rises beyond Graves Light. The photographer in the picture is using a telephoto lens, but this picture was shot with an iPhone.
- The Graves look tiny and remote as we helicopter in from Revere.
- Hovering above the shallow lagoon on the leeward side of the ledge, we see the green that indicates shallow water with a sandy bottom.
- Our expert pilot takes us as close as a helicopter can safely get to the light, where the photographer uses a telephoto lens to survey the condition of the tower.
- The ledges of The Graves break the water and create new currents that stream into Boston Harbor.
What a great contribution you are making to preserve our local maritime history.
Great web site to enable others to appreciate the history of Grave’s Light, and to follow your progress on this restoration project.Thank you. Best wishes!
